Lao American Poet Wins Rhysling Award

Congratulations to Lao American poet Krysada Binly Panusith Phounsiri, who just won first place in the Rhysling Awards from the Science Fiction Poetry Association for his poem “It Begins With A Haunting.” He is tied this year with poet Ann K. Schwader for her poem “Keziah” for the award. He is the very first Lao American poet to receive this award. “It Begins With A Haunting” first appeared in his debut collection of poetry Dance Among Elephants from Sahtu Press.

The Rhysling Awards were established 38 years ago by the Science Fiction Poetry Association to recognize the best speculative poems of the previous. Speculative poems are poems that incorporate themes and techniques of science fiction, fantasy, horror and other highly imaginative genres in their subject matter.
