Lao American Mental Health, Zombies and Tarot

Excerpts of Saymoukda Duangphouxay Vongsay’s Kung Fu Zombies vs. Shaman Warrior will be part of the issue of The Asian American Literary Review on mental health in the Asian American Community. One aspect of the project connected to the issue is the Asian American Tarot whose kickstarter is going on right now.

In the followup to Duangphouxay Vongsay’s Kung Fu Zombies vs. Cannibals, her newest play addresses issues of mental health and spirituality:  “With Hanuman as her spiritual guide, a young woman must battle zombies in the jungle, monsters that materialize from Buddhist texts, and her own personal demons in a post apocalyptic Laos. Kung Fu Zombies vs Shaman Warrior examines the perception of mental illness as demonic possession within the Lao community. “
